Mental Health Resources

APS Reach Out Resources logo

APS has many mental health resources for students. This page lists student resources that are available onsite at this school and how to access them. If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health crisis or emergency please contact the New Mexico Crisis and Access Line at 988 or emergency services at 911.

Behavior Redirectors

Behavior Redirectors provide early intervention focusing on helping elementary students create positive relationships with students and staff. The program equips students with skills to modify their behavior, emphasizes positive behavior choices, and teaches self-regulation strategies.

Health and Wellness Team

The Health and Wellness Team (HWT) consists of professional school staff who identify and provide interventions for individual students who need support for health, mental health and social and emotional well-being. Any student can be referred to the HWT. Intervention plans are developed for each student based on their identified needs. Please contact the school counselor(s) for more information.

Health Assistant

Health Assistants are a part of the health office team and provide health services to students under the guidance of the school nurse.

Nurse

School Nurses help students achieve academic success and support every student's ability to learn and access the learning environment.

They oversee the administration of necessary medications and treatments students may need during the school day and are available as a valuable resource to families, staff and school members to guide and plan best practices for healthy students.

Re-Entry After Hospital Stay

Students returning to school from out of school placements such as residential treatment centers and inpatient behavioral health facilities qualify for a re-entry meeting. This meeting is a coordinated effort between parents/guardians and the school. Parents/guardians can request a re-entry meeting by contacting the school nurse or the District Behavioral Health Resource Nurse at 505-855-9844.

School Counselors

School Counselors provide ongoing academic, personal/social and college and career readiness support. Students can seek out their school counselor whenever support is needed. See the School Counseling tab on your school's website for more information.

Suicide Prevention Protocol

Upon notification from student, staff, or parent/guardian, the counselor, nurse, or social worker will meet with the student. During this meeting, the counselor, nurse, or social worker will discuss the student's ideation. A phone call home will be made to discuss referral options.
